Hero

Hero takes action

in the face of fear

At birth we have no ability to survive on our own. It is a harsh fact of life that keeps the young close to home. At some point we have to make the transition to living through our own resourcefulness. This potential makes the homebody the Coward. We need to get strong, gain some knowledge and skills and risk stepping into the world. This requires the mental ability to control our emotions so we can take the valuable information fear is offering, and take rational actions.  This gives us the agency to shape our best outcomes when life throws us a problem.

Our fears as an early warning system for impending danger. There is still time to take corrective action. We can develop allies, and make a plan for pushing back against the danger. Bravery is not the absence of fear. It’s feeling the fear, and taking action anyway.

Our capacity to preserve and protect our valuables expands with the conquering of ever greater challenges. We start at the boundary of our comfort zone and take a step into a foreign land. With each survival we expand the known, our confidence, and our skill level. Power increases as we learn more ways to assert our will, even against resistance.
